SIMPLIFIED SPECTRUM ANALYSER

DESCRIPTION
• To determine the operating principles and circuits of a basic spectrum analyser.
• In this simplified analyser, a sweep generator is used to provide an external input to the oscilloscope and at the same time, to change the voltage on the control circuit of a voltage controlled oscillator.
• Thus the oscillator frequency varies as a sweep moves across the CRT. The unknown frequency, in this case from the signal generator is next mixed with the signal from the VCO.
• As with any mixer, sum and difference frequencies are produced, but only the difference will be processed.
